HARLING
POINTING
LIMEWASH |
|
Harling was common in Scotland over random rubble built walls, although often it has been removed to reveal the underlying stone work or covered in cement. Harling plays an important function in preventing water penetration deep into walls. A properly applied traditional lime harl has a very different, and much more attractive, appearance to a modern cement render or dry dash.
We follow the lines of the original masonry to produce a soft protective finish, paying particular attention to detailing to ensure the durability of the finish. Successful curing of lime harl is a particular skill and we are pleased to have many examples of projects from the last decade which have stood the test of time. These include unusual situations, such as lime harl onto new concrete block and earth walls.
